EKVÜ – statutory definition:

EKVÜ (Eesti Kütte- ja Ventilatsiooniinseneride Ühendus) is a non-profit society of persons with the objective to develop the activities concerning the field of HVAC engineering.

Foundation of EKVÜ

The starting point of the co-operation initiated by the heating and ventilation engineers may be considered the year of 1987 when the leading specialists of the profession, mainly from Tallinn design-and commissioning companies, started to organize conferences on the subject in the interest of resolving engineering problems on a more rational basis. In communication with the governmental structures of that time those conferences (were) became known as Heating and Ventilation Engineering Council.

In the spring of 1989 formation of the association now known (at present) as EKVÜ took place. To obtain the status of the corporate body a corresponding foundation meeting was called together on April 18, 1991 where 35 founder members adopted the Articles of Association complying with the requirements of that time and elected a 7-membered council. The activities of EKVÜ were directed by Vello Penjam with Teet Tark and Tiit Pukk as his deputies. Summer, political events and bureaucratic procedures took a considerable time; therefore the Registration Certificate issued by Tallinn City Government bears the date of October 4, 1991.

EKVÜ membership

EKVÜ membership consists of more than 410 active members.

Any individual, having professional higher education (irrespective of service record), may become an EKVÜ member (may become any individual having professional higher education (irrespective of service record)) on submitting corresponding application and receiving approval from  the committee; persons without special higher education with service record in the trade at least 3 years; engineers-practitioners with service record in the trade not less than 5 years who recognize the Articles of EKVÜ.

Development of EKVÜ 2009-2012

The present council of EKVÜ under direction of Aivar Uutar employed 4 committees:

  • Multilevel training
  • Standards
  • Public relations
  • Norms, regulations

Owing to the work of committees the specialists of EKVÜ have actively participated in computing standards for speciality, assisting in curricula planning for schools and systematically organized training seminars.

An EKVÜ website presenting seminar programmes, agendas and minutes of council meetings, list of members, professional information, drafts for computed design norms, content of HV design work, references to several homepages and links has been created.

One strategic task facing EKVÜ is to enlarge its membership. Considering that there are at least 300-400 companies in Estonia operating in the area of heating and ventilation (design, assembly, sale, manufacture), there should be good opportunity to increase in the number of members.

Contacts with other associations

EKVÜ has established contacts with trade associations of other countries. Since the autumn of 1994 EKVÜ has been enrolled as an associated member in Scanvac, the association uniting Scandinavian countries. In 1998, at the conference of REHVA in Sevilla, EKVÜ was admitted as the member of REHVA (European Association of Heating and Ventilation Trade). In 1998 EKVÜ also became a joint member of the Association of Civil Engineers – Ehitusinseneride Liit (EEL).

Future strategic tasks

Development of the essential operation of EKVÜ requires continued acting through committees. In addition to seminars thematic conversation circles shall be developed for revealing tangible problems with participation of various parties and independent experts. In line of new trends it is necessary to organize paid training seminars for other building cluster players and cooperate with ministries and other non-profitable organisations. Complying with the member’s wishes we should continue with visits to distinguished sites.
