Invitation and Rules for the REHVA Student Competition at Tallinn, Estonia 2011
Due to the great success of the REHVA Student Competition at recent Clima conferences, REHVA has decided to hold this competition annually, in connection with the REHVA Annual Conference. The next competition will take place in Tallinn, Estonia, on May 19 and 20 2011. REHVA invites its Member Associations to take part and to send their best national student(s) to participate in the competition.
REHVA Member Associations shall send the title of the competing student’s work with name(s) and institute(s) of the student(s) to REHVA info@rehva.eu by March 15, 2011 (one entry per association).
REHVA Member Associations shall send the summary, a maximum of 6 pages prepared by the student(s) of their work, to the chairman of REHVA’s Education Committee, Prof. Karel Kabele (kabele@fsv.cvut.cz) with a copy to REHVA office (info@rehva.eu), as a PDF file by e- mail before April 15, 2011. Competing student(s) shall bring to the conference the paper copies of the summary, an A1 size poster (portrait shape) to be displayed at the conference and a PowerPoint presentation to be made to the jury.
The presentations will take place on May 19, 2011 at the Annual Conference. The winner(s) will be announced and receive their award(s) in the closing session of the conference on May 20.
REHVA’s board of directors encourages the teachers of the participating student(s) to take part in the conference. Please note there is no registration fee to the conference for the students taking part in the competition. The REHVA Education Committee will set up a jury and appoint its chair for the competition. The teachers and other interested persons can attend the competition. The travel and accommodation cost for the participants are to be covered by the participants or their Member Association.
RULES of the competition
- The competing student’s work should be a bachelor or masters thesis or be of equivalent level.
- The subject of each competing student’s work is totally open but it has to be in the area of HVAC technology. The methods used can be experimental, analytical, numerical, design, etc.
- The work will either have been done by individual students or a maximum group of two students.
- The entries are to be shown on one A1 poster + a summary of 6 (maximum) A4 pages.
- All the documents and presentations have to be in English.
- The participants will present their work orally to the jury at the competition. These presentations are limited to 10 minutes maximum. A PowerPoint presentation can be used to support the oral presentations (videos or pre-recorded presentations are not allowed)
- After each presentation, the members of jury can ask questions related to the work.
- All participants will receive a certificate for their participation.
- The jury will meet after the presentations are completed and make its decisions.
- The winners will be announced to all participants after the jury’s meeting.
The jury may select up to a maximum of 3 entries for awards. - The overall winner will present (maximum 10 minutes) their work in the closing plenary session of the conference.
Awarding criteria
The jury will make its decision based on the following criteria:
- The relevance and technical feasibility of the topic
- A Clear statement of the objective of the work
- Methods used
- Results achieved compared with the objectives
- The validity of the results
An analysis of the reliability of the results
